WHAT INSURANCE COVERS
Understanding Your Homeowner's Policy
Most homeowner's insurance policies in Colorado cover roof damage caused by hail, wind, and other sudden weather events. Whether your policy pays out depends on the cause of damage and the type of coverage you carry.
- Policies with Replacement Cost Value (RCV) coverage pay to replace your roof with materials of like kind and quality, minus your deductible.
- Policies with Actual Cash Value (ACV) coverage pay only the depreciated value of your roof at the time of the storm, which can leave a significant gap between what insurance pays and what the repair actually costs.
Colorado homeowners can also add Code Coverage to address current building code requirements. Without it, you may be responsible for the cost of bringing your roof up to code even when the storm itself is covered.
We recommend confirming your coverage details with your insurance agent before any storm hits.
